The Legacy of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Elementary School has continued since September, 1955 to the present 2009-2010 School year. Over the decades Holy Redeemer School has continued to provide quality faith based education and character formation for hundreds of students.
Many of the alumni and alumnae of the Parish School have become leaders in our society and professionals in our urban workforce. Among so many we mention our alumnae Yvette Alexander, DC Councilperson representing Ward VII in the District of Columbia. Photos of our Church-School gala, which occurred on December 5, 2009, at the Washington Navy Yard are posted on this site.
Facing the reality of downturn in enrollment of students at Holy Redeemer and the diminishing financial revenues and support, Father Bava, the current pastor, had to make a decision about the School’s future. So, with much regret Father Bava decided to ask Archbishop Wuerl of the Archdiocese of Washington to terminate the School’s programs and services effective June 15, 2010.
You will find posted on this website photos of the students and families of the school and Church at some of our end of the year fun activities. Also, you will find pictures of the 2010 graduation class and their families. Graduation Day was June 4, 2010.
The Holy Redeemer School website will remain open in order to communicate information to our friends, benefactors and the public about the future use of our school site. Father Bava has discerned with parishioners’ input to continue promoting the Mission which sustained the school staff over the years. The intent is to use the facility to promote education, social empowerment, life skills development and evangelization from our Catholic focus and base. Several different programs for different constituent groups will hopefully, operate from a future “Holy Redeemer Education and Life Development Center”.
